About Greer

What to do, where to live, and how to thrive.

Greer in a Nutshell

In recent years, Greer has made a name for itself with its lively downtown area, its consistent stream of events and activities, and its thriving arts scene. Greer has become one of the South’s fastest growing cities—and understandably so. With the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in its backyard, Greer is a hub for travelers and tourists alike. But at the heart of all the hustle and bustle, Greer is focused on a family-friendly atmosphere created by dedicated citizens and local business owners.

Residential Life

Life in Greer is primarily suburban. With shopping centers, grocery stores, pharmacies, and other basic necessities a mere 10-minute drive from virtually anywhere in the area, Greer is both convenient for residential life and built for it. Located almost directly between Greenville and Spartanburg, Greer is also a short drive to many major attractions in the Upstate.

Attractions

Greer’s downtown area, also known as Greer Station, is a go-to place for locals, visitors, and tourists looking for great food, eclectic shopping, and a taste of South Carolina history (Greer Station has more than 40 buildings on the National Historic Register). Residents of Greer often spend time at Greer City Park, a perfect gathering place for families and friends and also a regular venue for events such as the annual Freedom Blast, summertime Moonlight Movie series, and the Greer Goes Global International Festival. Greer is also nearby HollyWild Animal Park and Shipwreck Cove Family Waterpark.

Commerce

Long-time home to international corporations like BMW Manufacturing Company and Mitsubishi Polyester Inc., Greer draws many new residents to the area each month with its bustling commerce. In addition, hundreds of family-owned and locally operated businesses have found success in Greer due to its rapid growth and local loyalty.

Schools

Much like Downtown Greenville, Greer is known for its great education and school system. Greer is home to many top-ranked schools, including Buena Vista Elementary School, Greer Middle College Charter High School, and Riverside High School.
